Cordless battery that seems like a cord is attached
I bought the Panasonic EYC142B 14.4V Lithium Ion 3-Tool Combo Kit with Drill & Driver, Impact Driver and Flashlight. I bought an extra battery for a total of three. I use the drill the most. Light weight with the Lithium Ion battery. Drill hangs effortlessly on my electrical bags without being noticed. Battery will last a day and a half of use. For example I installed 40, 4-tube fluorescent wraps with three each 2″ #10 sq-drive pan-heads. Holes were drilled in the fixture to match the ceiling joists and drilled some holes to pull KO’s. Also did other miscellaneous screwing and wood drilling. Easily turns a 7/8″ electrical auger. Great battery and tool from Panasonic! I’d buy another.
Update (5/20/2012): This item is currently on sale here for the lowest price I’ve seen. I also found some auctions for this item here.

18 months, 12 recharges then dead
I bought the Panasonic drill/driver/light kit for about $360. The tools are the finest quality tools in my shop. Unfortunately, one of the batteries in the kit died 18 months after I purchased the kit.
Most lithium cells can be recharged hundreds of times. Despite me treating these batteries like gold and never having a mishap with the tool, I got about 12 recharges out of this $100.50 battery before having to replace it.
If you haven’t already bought the Panasonic tool by any chance, consider buying the Milwaukee gear. It gets great reviews and has a 5 year warranty.
Unfortunately, Panasonic doesn’t believe in their tools. The sell the most expensive gear out there and only provide a one year warranty. I went around in circles for 2 months writing them and talking to reps. One rep agreed to send me a new battery at no charge (Ed out of the New Jersey office) and flaked. Several agreed that there is no way this battery should fail after 12 recharges, over a short period of time, and without any drops/etc. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t back it up.
Ironically, a Panasonic head hunter contacted me looking to fill a position in the midst of all of this. Maybe I should have agreed to interview if they replaced my bleepin battery.
